Our property spans across fertile farmland, lush gardens, the dramatic, windswept cliffs, and streamside meadows of Honopueo and Hana’ula—ancient land divisions in the historic region of North Kohala. Here, timeworn pohaku (stones) stand as silent sentinels, sharing space with native mango trees beneath a canopy that once hosted hula dancers. Winding paths meander through vibrant gardens and deep into the valley, while others lead makai (toward the sea), guiding visitors to a serene cobbled beach and secluded cove.

Living on the Land.
Hawaii Island Retreat encompasses 50 acres of sacred land, home to thriving gardens, peaceful goat sanctuaries, and a secluded private cove.
This land carries stories—and a quiet sense of magic—woven through legend, stone, and mist-filled mornings. Through articles, poems, and short reflections, we share glimpses of its hidden beauty and healing presence. We invite you to explore and celebrate Ahu Pohaku Ho‘omaluhia, the land of peace-giving stones, through images and words that honor its spirit. This is green travel at its most enchanting.
Here, you are invited to experience life as our ancestors once did—in a deep relationship with the land and all the beings who share it. Guests may visit our goat dairy, savor ripe fruit picked straight from the tree, assist our gardener in harvesting vegetables from the organic garden, and wander across the property learning about and supporting the care of gardens, orchards, and animals.
